In the last sentence, you can use another connectors, like although or however. "Despite", has to be used to join two conditions ( ex.: I'm happy despite I've lost the comments from....) In that case I prefer the form "despite that" or "in despite of". David Feel free to correct me, it is just to improve. Just a piece of advice.
